Chris had to face the following challenge. After his promotion he became the Manager of multiple employee teams. He had to manage more than 50 people in total. Until then he was supervising a team of only 5 people and therefore he did not have the necessary managerial experience. And not only this. The organization he was working for, was in the middle of important changes and he had to support the successful implementation of those changes. The goal of our coaching sessions was to help Chris being successful in his new duties.
In his new role and on a daily basis Chris had to deal with difficulties related to people management. Fights among the people, complaints and even his own outbursts when he was under pressure. Chris knew that he had this weakness, getting angry when he was under pressure and shouting at his subordinates. This was one of the first things we worked during our coaching sessions, using NLP techniques, with very good results. As a next step, we focused on the development of Chris’s leadership skills.
From the assessment of Chris’s management style we found out that he needed to make changes in the way he was managing his employee teams. Chris was this kind of Manager that he liked giving orders and waiting their execution, being strict with deadlines. However, as the company was in the middle of organizational changes, a new management style was needed. A management style that could infuse to all employees the new vision and justify the changes. A management style that could improve the employees’ moral which had fallen as a result of the changes. We worked with Chris towards this direction by designing a very specific action plan that he had to implement as well as by specifying behavioral changes that would help him develop a new management style. We also focused on the development of specific leadership skills, the score of which was very low in Chris’s assessment and their development became a priority.
After a period of just a few months, Chris saw the positive results of the work we did together as well as the results of his own personal growth reflected in the improvement of the work climate, the minimization of employee turnover and the positive employee feedback..
